THC and CBD

Oral CBD did not consistently reduce THC effects in a controlled trial

Randomized double-blind placebo-controlled crossover trial
Published Jul 25, 2024 · Verified Oct 10, 2026

Study overview

In 37 healthy volunteers, the highest tested oral CBD condition increased several effects of oral THC and THC exposure in blood. Lower CBD conditions did not significantly change the measured THC effects.

Evidence & interpretation

Five-way crossover design testing oral THC with placebo or three CBD conditions. Results challenge the general claim that adding CBD reliably counteracts THC. This entry reports research, not treatment instructions.

Limitations

A small acute study in healthy volunteers using specific oral formulations. Findings cannot be assumed to apply to other routes, products, patterns of use or clinical populations.
